The Foundation conducts medical convoys to examine eyes to treat the causes of blindness spread in villages, dispenses glasses and treatment to those who are eligible, and also performs operations for those in need.
More than 60 million people will have a sight-threatening form of the disease. Glaucoma is also the third most common cause of blindness in the world and more than 60 million people are affected by glaucoma worldwide. To date, there is still no widespread screening and treatment for these other eye conditions, as there are still no cost-effective treatments, especially in low-resource settings. During this strategic plan, we will seek and then trial a cost-effective package of interventions to treat diabetic retinopathy. We will also maintain a monitoring brief on glaucoma and other leading causes of blindness and intervene where we can to create affordable models of care.
To ensure the sustainability of the project, cases are followed up for a year, in the following ways:
• Follow-up cards
• Agreement with a local medical center (if any) or coordination with a medical center in Cairo.
• A report every 3 months on cases (success rate of operations, number of glasses, number of medications, supplementary cards...)
Activity/month
• Conducting feasibility studies and field research
• Permits
• Conducting examination, treatment, and making glasses
• surgeries
• Follow up for one year
